Love Christmas timeline

Plan

  • Decide who you can bless with a Bags of Kindness; foodbank recipients, attendees of your outreach ministries, local charities, schools, or care homes etc.

  • Think about what you’d like to put in your bags and where it will come from.

  • Involve your church in the planning and include your Love Christmas activities in your church’s calendar.

  • Make a date in your church’s calendar for a packing day.

  • Reach out to local supermarkets to see how they can help, can they donate free products or offer you discounts on bulk items.

  • Get in touch with other local churches and partners such as schools or businesses and encourage them to join in! Ask if they can help you by providing some volunteers, donating items or letting you use their space.

  • Once you know what you’ll include in your bags of Kindness, start to think about how your church is able to contribute through donations or giving

  • Share plans with your church and invite them to sign up to donate items, or join the packing day.

  • Start building your team of volunteers. Organising packing/delivery days which are accessible to your congregation and allow people to get involved. Think about hosting a youth night or a parent of little one's event so your whole community can join in.

Pack and deliver

  • This is the fun part! Enjoy hosting your packing events and distributing your Bags of Kindness!

FAQs

  • By joining hundreds of churches across the UK in delivering Bags of Kindness to those in our communities who are isolated or facing hardship this Christmas, we can share a powerful, united message of hope and kindness — because we’re stronger together!

  • Churches are our main point of contact for Love Christmas. However, if you’re an individual, business, school, charity or other organisation who’d like to join in, we encourage you to reach out to a local church in your community to see if they are part of Love Christmas - there are so many ways you can participate through volunteering, donating items, or hosting a packing event.

  • ORGANISE Love Christmas activities to pack and deliver Bags of Kindness.

MOBILISE volunteers from your congregation and community.

GROW your network by partnering with other churches, businesses, schools and more.

RAISE awareness on social media and the press by sharing your Love Christmas activities.

  • A Bag of Kindness is a bag or box of gifts designed to share kindness with members of our community who are experiencing hardship or isolation at Christmas.

What goes in your Bag of Kindness depends on the recipient. We strongly recommend that you don’t include alcohol, and that you are mindful of cultural preferences. Otherwise, it’s largely up to you - but you might want to include edible treats, toys, small gifts and more. See our suggested packing list for other ideas.

  • Partner organisations might include schools, charities, businesses, and more. Love Christmas provides an amazing opportunity to develop or strengthen these relationships and can act as a springboard for longer-term partnership.

  • Social media – we’d love you to join us in sharing a united message of kindness this Christmas! All you need to do is download the social media templates and get going! Please tag us so that the wonderful ways your church is getting involved gets shared more widely and use the hashtag #LoveChristmasLYN

Local Press – why not contact your local press and tell them what you’re up to? People love to hear good news stories at Christmas! You could invite them along to your packing day or event.

Email us – we’d love to hear all the ways you’re getting your church and local partners involved and any feedback from those who’ve been on the receiving end too! Email us: lovechristmas@loveyourneighbour.uk

  • By sharing your impact numbers, we can celebrate the incredible ways churches across the UK are coming together to bring hope and joy to those in need this Christmas. Every Bag of Kindness distributed is a testament to the generosity and compassion of each church, and together, we are creating a powerful wave of love that reaches across our communities.
